Things to Consider When Choosing a Property Mentor

Many realtors have had success in their careers and have credited their success to having a mentor. This is a common factor for many high end investors and other successful business people as well. Often a mentor will recommend enrolling in real estate courses to help familiarise the person with current real estate information.

Having a mentor can help to keep investors and other successful individuals from failure as the mentors can help keep them from making the same mistakes that have been made previously. This experience can assist them in reaching their career goals at a faster pace. Reaching their career goals more quickly can also help them to remain motivated to continue on their chosen career path which will help with advancement within the company that they are working for.

When selecting a mentor, there are certain things that a person should look out for and be aware of. Many people that are currently marketing themselves as mentors are not completely qualified for various reasons. Though they may be very knowledgeable about the real estate market, if they are not actively working as an investment realtor a person should be very careful. The reason for this is that they must be able to prove that the method that they are teaching is successful.

It is also very important that the prospective mentor has experience with various buying and selling transactions and is knowledgeable in the different situations. It is recommended that the prospective mentor has at least 40 investment transactions done successfully. If a person has less than 40 transactions, it is recommended that a person not take them for a mentor.

Another thing that a person should look for in a mentor is the length of time that they have been involved in real estate investing. It is recommended that the prospective mentor should have been in real estate investing for a minimum of 12 years. The reason for this is because it shows that they have experienced the different real estate markets. If they have proven that they can be successful even when the real estate market is not doing well, then they will likely be a good real estate mentor for someone.

When a person is looking for a real estate mentor, it is important that the prospective mentor has properties available for sale. While this is not always a requirement, if they are truly successful, then they will likely have properties available when they meet with the person.

Another type of person that should be avoided when seeking a mentor is someone that is overly pushy and trying to get you to act now. Someone that is doing this is likely not going to be able to help the person learn everything that they will need in order to be a successful real estate investor. It is important that a prospective mentor has integrity and is willing to disclose the negative things as well as show the positives. If they put other people down or talk negatively about someone else in order to get ahead, then they would not be a good choice.

If the right person is found, it is important that the person looking for a mentor is not afraid of paying them to help further their real estate career. The mentor is going to benefit financially, but if they are doing their job then they should be making money doing so. It is important that both parties disclose their objectives and expectations at the beginning so that neither person feels that they were slighted.

When selecting a mentor it is critical that the person you choose is honest and not offering something that seems to be too good to be true. If a program promises this then it is likely not a legitimate program. It is important to keep in mind that the reason a person is getting a mentor is to further their real estate career as well as secure their financial future. Any real estate course that remains focused on long term financial freedom, is a course worth checking into. If the prospective mentor is comfortable with the real estate courses and can show that they are successful, then they may be the mentor that the person was looking for.
