More than two in five Britons have considered buying a property abroad and living there on a permanent basis, a new study has shown.
According to a survey by Bank of Scotland International, one in ten would choose Australia ? an option that is particularly popular with younger Brits.
France is the favourite investment destination in Europe, especially among people aged 45 or over, the study found.
Bank of Scotland International's managing director Tony Wilcox said the challenges of integrating into a new culture can entail "a whole set of lifestyle changes, including an impact upon your financial affairs".
However, the good news is that many banks now offer overseas services including investments, savings and current accounts, he added.
A recent survey by HiFX Global Property Hotspot revealed that the number of enquiries regarding investment opportunities in Australia has doubled over the past year.
