Greater numbers of older people from the UK are set to visit long-haul destinations, according to a new study.
Research by Alliance & Leicester found that 54 per cent of over-50s wanted to travel overseas more regularly.
Australia was named as the most popular location among this age group, while Europe and the US were also said to be tempting options.
This suggests that these areas could receive an influx of older British holidaymakers during the next few years.
Emma Walkley, spokesperson for Alliance & Leicester, commented: "This is not an age group that plans to sit back and enjoy a slower pace of life."
She said that the desire among the over-50s to see more of the world was "clear", adding that it displayed their "thirst for adventure".
This comes after official figures revealed that a record number of Britons are now choosing to move abroad to countries such as Australia, France and Spain.
