In today’s difficult financial times, many people strive to use their retirement pennies wisely in a bid to make hard earned money last for themselves and their families. With this in mind, a New York gentleman stumbled upon a seemingly interesting opportunity in rural Portugal:
A rather dilapidated, modest farmhouse sat vacant for 15 years. The owner and his wife had both died with no heirs and the property was eventually put onto the market to pay taxes. The house came with a large, ugly steel barn on the land and its steel doors had been kept welded shut for all these years. Although the property had been viewed by many a browsing buyer, nobody wanted to go to the extra cost of breaking open the doors to see what exactly was in the barn, and anyway it was just complimentary to the property. Nobody made an offer for this rather unattractive set up of buildings, until the New York man finally bought it at below market value - just over half its actual worth. The man moved in and he and his wife bought a generator and some grinders to cut through the steel welds and break into the enormous barn – curiosity was killing them!
So what was in the barn………..?
