The number of people visiting Brazil is likely to reach record levels this year, according to official estimates.
Tourism institute Embratur stated that recent years had seen a period of consistent growth in the country's tourist sector.
Figures from the organisation showed that in 2006, Brazil received 5.02 million visitors from overseas.
This was up from 3.78 million four years earlier, prompting officials to suggest that this year's overall number of tourists could exceed 5.5 million.
Jeanine Pires, president of Embratur, commented: "Brazil is moving towards a new record in the intake of foreign currency through the visit of foreign tourists."
Speaking to Arabian Travel News, she added that the country's tourist industry was aiming to attract more people from the Middle East.
Growing tourism in Brazil could be a factor that may tempt foreign buyers to invest in the country's property market.
UK newspaper the Mirror recently highlighted many of the market's attributes to potential investors, such as its "booming" economy and cheap property prices.
