The Mayor of Natal has recently met with representatives from the Spanish group BCM Ingenieros S.L. for the presentation of a project to build a brand new marina in Natal.  The proposals will be analysed by the Natal Infrastructure and Tourism Secretaries.

If the project is approved, the marina will be ready to open in July of 2008.  It will cover an area of 50 hectares, consisting of 25 hectares each of wet and dry space and have a much needed capacity for 500 boats.  In addition to boat mooring, the dry area will boast a new development of apartments for staff, a park, a museum and a nautical school.

According to the Mayor, the marina should boost tourism in the area of Natal, while currently the nearest marina is located in Salvador, Bahia.  The new marina plans are good news to property developers as they should mark a further boost to the tourist economy, attracting increased numbers of visitors to Natal.
