Brazilian hotels remain unaffected by economic turmoil

Hotels in Brazil have not suffered in the wake of the global economic downturn, it has been revealed, which suggests Brazilian property might still represent a good investment opportunity.

According to Alvaro Bezerra de Mello, the president at the Brazilian Hotel Industry Association, hotels in Brazil have been looking to diversify following the fall in foreign tourist numbers this year, brazzilmag.com reports.

This tactic has paid off, he says, as by focusing on domestic tourism hotels have been able to secure business easily despite absence of overseas customers.

As a result, it is likely that investors with property in Brazil will not struggle to let their properties as long as they are marketed in the right areas.

What's more, Mr de Mello believes the tourism sector will be especially robust in the lead-up to the Rio carnival.

"We did not even have any cancellations," he told the website.

"Tourism in general in Brazil should do well until after carnival, which is our high season."

The Rio carnival 2009 starts on Friday, February 20th.
