Sporting events 'should boost Brazil property investment'

People looking for property in Brazil may want to find somewhere sooner rather than later after one expert noted that the sporting events due to take place in the country over the coming years may boost prices.

Mark Sharp, chief executive officer of the Association of International Property Professionals, explained that based on other locations that have hosted the Olympics and World Cup, real estate values could increase by as much as 25 per cent.

"Experience from around the world tends to show that, on the whole, big tournaments have a positive effect on property prices," he stated.

Brazil is gearing up to host the football World Cup in 2014 and two years later it will be holding the Olympic Games.

Mr Sharp pointed out that improvements to the country's infrastructure ahead of the tournaments, as well as a growing economy are both factors that are encouraging investors to look into the returns available from property in Brazil.

Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Salvador, Brasilia and Fortaleza are just some of the cities where World Cup games will be played.
Sustained economic expansion predicted in Brazil

Brazil's economy is expected to grow at a sustainable pace over the remainder of the year and into 2011, it has been claimed.

The news will be welcomed by investors looking to buy property in Brazil, with analysts predicting economic growth in the country of over seven per cent this year.

This is according to a poll of 23 analysts, strategists and fund managers surveyed by Reuters.

On average, they forecast that the Sao Paulo stock exchange's benchmark Bovespa index will reach 80,000 points by the end of the next year, over 15 percent higher than its Tuesday close of 69,337.64.

Furthermore, the index should rise to 73,000 by mid-2011, the poll found.

"We believe in a very good year for the Brazilian economy, with sustained expansion in the gross domestic product," Paulo Esteves of Gradual Investimentos in Sao Paulo told the news provider.

"The growth of emerging powers and the recovery of the US economy will support growth in the Bovespa, which in our view won't sink again to its 2010 low of 57,600 next year."

It follows recent reports that Brazil is the most popular country in the world in terms of enquiries, according to real estate consultancy Colodarcy.

Brazil property market 'unaffected' by election

Property investors looking to buy real estate in Brazil are likely to be encouraged by news that the country's housing market will remain unaffected by the result of the recent presidential election.

Indeed, in excess of 135 million Brazilians went to the polls to elect Dilma Rousseff as successor to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who was constitutionally not allowed to stand for a third term.

Felipe Cavalcante, president of ADIT Brasil - the association for real estate and tourism development - confirmed that the market would continue to perform irrespective of the result.

"The Brazil real estate market scenario is quite positive. Irrespective of who wins … Brazil's economic growth and stability will continue," he said.

"In relation to the Brazilian property market, the Minha Casa Minha Vida federal programme and the civil construction boom will carry on."

Meanwhile, according to specialist agent uv10.com, Brazil offers investors a platform for "excellent growth", but the strategy has to be right before buyers part with their money.

UK to share experience with Brazil

A British cabinet minister has expressed his willingness to share the country's experiences of staging major events with Brazil.

The South American country is preparing to host the Fifa World Cup in 2014 and is also bidding to stage the Olympic Games two years later.

Business secretary John Hutton has recently been in Brazil discussing ways of boosting trade with the UK and has offered to help with its preparations for the sporting events.

He commented: "The UK is a leader in hosting world class events, from the development of legacy infrastructure through to the logistics of crowd flow and festival management."

Mr Hutton added that this expertise could help make sure that the Brazil World Cup is a successful event that provides tangible and long-lasting benefits.

Although Brazil has only staged the World Cup once before, it is the most successful participant in the competition, as it has won the trophy an unprecedented 5 times.
Brazilian ethanol development announced

An American investment group has moved to join forces with Brazil's leading ethanol producer Cosan.

The new company will be called Radar and will purchase land, which will then be used to grow sugar for the ethanol plants.

Paulo Diniz, chief financial officer for Cosan, told Reuters that the decision to go ahead with the joint venture was made because the each announcement that a new production plant was going to be built resulted in a rise in land prices in the surrounding area.

He said that the new company would attempt to acquire farmland before any details of new facilities were released to the public.

Mr Diniz added that there were already plans in place to buy two $185 million (£100 million) plots of land.

In related news, Cosan announced earlier this month that it has entered into an electric power trading agreement with CPFL. Through a Gasa unit, a project for energy co-generation using biomass will be explored.

A government official in Brazil has announced new plans to improve the management of the country's beauty spots.

The South American nation currently hosts a number of national parks, such as Serra dos Orgaos in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

According to Brazzil Mag, 6 federal preservation units across the country are set to benefit from more than £15 million of government fundings.

Environment minister Carlos Minc said this will go towards the creation of new guided trails, visitor centres and other tourist amenities.

This, he said, will ensure that Brazil's national parks can be enjoyed by visitors without a significant environment cost.

Mr Minc commented: "The aim is to increase the level of protection and enjoyment, and make a profit at preservation units."

This comes after figures cited by Brazzil Mag revealed that between January and June 2008, more that 3.2 million foreign nationals chose to visit the country.
Brazil rental market receives boost

Owners of a rental property in Brazil could be in line to benefit from growing tourism in the South American nation.

Brazzil Mag has cited official figures showing that 3.2 million foreign leisure travellers visited Brazil during the first six months of 2008.

This represents an increase of almost three per cent on the same period of the previous year.

The figures will be welcome reading for people who have invested in Brazil's buy-to-let sector, as they suggest rental accommodation is now in higher demand.

As a result, property owners could find themselves collecting higher rental returns and enjoying lower vacancy rates.

Commenting on the findings, Jeanine Pires of tourism institute Embratur said: "It shows constant recovery in the number of arrivals on international flights, which is very good."

Meanwhile, the Associated Press has reported that authorities in Brazil are to spend more than £1 billion on improving the country's airports.

The investment is being carried out in order to ensure they can deal with the high volume of passengers during the 2014 World Cup.
Brazil's economy set to keep expanding

Brazil has been tipped to continue experiencing economic growth over the next few years.

According to the New York Times, places such as the US and Europe are currently on the verge of recession and experiencing a downturn in their housing markets.

By contrast, Brazil is performing strongly and is currently in the middle of its biggest expansion in decades.

The New York Times said many sectors of the economy are reaping the benefits of this growth, as are many of the country's population.

Commenting on the impact of this growth, it remarked: "It has given Brazil new swagger, providing it with greater leverage to push for a tougher bargain with the US and Europe in global trade talks."

According to Amberlamb, the country's population is currently growing in wealth as the Brazilian economy is continuing to expand.

This, it said, is leading to new demand for high-quality properties in various regions, which the organisation believes could create opportunities for foreign investors.
Brazilian airports 'should improve before World Cup'

An official in the Brazilian aviation sector has said the South American nation's airports need to be improved before the FIFA 2014 World Cup.

The football tournament will be staged in cities such as Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, prompting a surge in the number of people flying into these regions.

Therefore, Adalberto Febeliano executive vice president of the Brazilian Association of General Aviation has said the existing transport network needs to be improved, AAP reports.

He said monthly passenger numbers could go up from four million to eight million by the time of the event, as people will be travelling across Brazil to watch different games.

"We need to modernise our airports and build new airports," Mr Febeliano commented.

"If we don't, when the World Cup arrives we won't have time to accommodate the passengers."

The 2014 World Cup will mark the second time that the country has hosted the football tournament.

Brazil is also in the running to host the Olympic Games two years later.

Overseas property buyers have been encouraged to consider buying a holiday home in Brazil.

According to analysts at Amberlamb, the South American country offers a number of lifestyle attractions which could make it an idea place to own a second home abroad.

The organisation said visitors to Brazil would be able to enjoy excellent weather and high living standards, as well as an environment which is constantly being improved.

Amberlamb stated that the growing popularity of the nation among foreign leisure travellers is leading to greater investment in amenities and facilities.

Therefore, it offers the quality of life that people from European countries would expect and demand.

"A property makes for a great place to stay in a fantastic nation," the group added.

Earlier this week, Property Wire revealed that Brazil's tourism institute Embratur wants to broaden the appeal of the country to foreign consumers.

According to the news provider, this will be achieved by promoting its historical and cultural attractions overseas, as well as its beaches and natural beauty.

Owners of property in Brazil could be set to benefit from plans to market the country more heavily overseas.

Tourism institute Embratur stated that it wants to raise the profile of the South American nation across the world.

Therefore, it will step up efforts to promote the various attractions of Brazil to prospective visitors worldwide.

However, the organisation wants this initiative to be supported by extra flights to and from the country, in order to open it up to a larger number of people.

This could be good news for owners of property in Brazil as it could stimulate further growth in its housing market and rental sector.

Jeanine Pires, president of Embratur, commented: "We want to promote the natural and cultural diversity of Brazil and show the modern lifestyle of the Brazilian people."

According to Gulf Weekly, the region has become a major of hotspot of activity for investors across the world, as well as holiday home buyers and expats.

Tourism authorities in Brazil have outlined their intention to raise the profile of the country overseas.

According to tourism institute Embratur, plans to market different aspects of the South American nation are currently being considered.

Jeanine Pires, president of the organisation, said the main focus will be on highlighting Brazil's natural and cultural diversity.

This, she stated, would help it to illustrate the modern lifestyle of the Brazilian people.

Ms Pires commented: "We want to draw attention to the possible experiences on offer in our sensational country at any time of year."

She added that Embratur also wants to increase the frequency of international flights in order to generate more employment and attract more visitors.

This could also stimulate growth in Brazil's housing market, a development which would be likely to attract the attention of overseas property investors.

Brazil has been described as a safe place to live by a Briton who is relocating to the country.

Damon Kestle is leaving his north London home with his pregnant wife Sarah within the next year.

Speaking to the Telegraph, he said the move has been partially driven by a desire to pursue a business enterprise overseas.

However, he also stated that he believes Brazil offers a better standard of living than the UK, as well as lower crime rates.

Mr Kestle commented: "I think Brazil is actually a better place to bring up a child.

"We are living in north London, which is full of knife crime."

He added that country offers a growing economy and is likely to become a more desirable place to live in during the next few years.

According to figures from NuBricks.com, Brazil is likely to experience economic growth of about 4.8 per cent this year.

UK expats branch out

Expatriates from the UK are increasingly looking to move to less traditional locations, it has been revealed.

According to FinancialAdvice.co.uk, countries in Europe are still very popular locations among Britons who choose to move overseas.

However, the website said that more and more people are looking at alternative countries as well, including some long-haul destinations.

FinancialAdvice.co.uk commented: "It seems that many may now be branching out to countries in South America."

The online portal said some people are choosing to move because house prices in the UK are far more expensive than in many other parts of the world.

However, the weakness of the pound against the euro means that European countries are also expensive, whereas South America offers better value for money.

This comes after NuBricks.com revealed that Brazil is likely to experience economic growth of about 4.8 per cent this year.

The Brazilian government has outlined some of its preparations for the football World Cup, which is being held in the country in 2014.

According to tourism minister Marta Suplicy, authorities are planning to create brand new upgrades to its transport infrastructure, reports the International Herald Tribune.

The official stated that a proposal to create a high-speed rail link between Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro is under consideration, along with plans to expand air traffic.

Ms Suplicy commented: "The 2014 World Cup is a great opportunity for the country to raise its visibility before the world."

This is only the second time that Brazil has hosted the tournament, as it staged the event back in 1950.

Antonio Lopes, a former Brazilian international, recently told Reuters that the whole country is likely to benefit from the World Cup.

Foreign interest in the Brazilian property market could be set to increase as a result of an announcement by British Airways (BA).

The carrier has revealed that it will begin offering non-stop flights to Rio de Janeiro from Heathrow Airport next winter.

This should significantly open up the market to both business and leisure travellers from the UK, therefore leading to greater demand for temporary accommodation from both groups.

According to British Airways, a growing number of people are travelling to the Brazilian city for work-related reasons, which suggests that this new flight could be an important transport link.

Robert Boyle, commercial director of the airline, commented: "South America is a growing market for us as demand for business and leisure travel increases."

He added that the flights were being introduced in response to this demand.

The popularity of investment property in Brazil was recently outlined by SaveBorrowSpend, which said its growing economy was "tempting" many potential property buyers from other countries.

The state of Rio Grande do Norte in Natal last month firmly established Brazil onto the map of worldwide windsurfing aficionados. With their Guinness Book of Records entry for long distance windsurfing now in progress, two Brazilian surfers, Diogo Guerreiro and Flavio Jardim, windsurfed all the way from the island of Fernando de Noronha to Natal, a distance of 370 km (about 230 miles). The journey took one day while the surfers were not accompanied by any boat. The event was supported by the Natal Tourism Secretary and publicised Natal as one of the best spots in the world for windsurfing as well as the newer, more radical sport of kite surfing.

Brazil is world famous for the quality of its coastline and, as well as an emerging property market hotspot, it is fast becoming well known as a veritable Mecca for windsurfing and kite surfing. Property investors looking to purchase in an up-and-coming niche market are looking in and around the world famous beach at So Miguel do Gostoso, about 120 km North of Natal, while in the neighbouring state of Cear at Cumbuco Beach, kite surfing is a particular favourite. Needless to say, windsurfers or not, Natal seems to be the name hot on many discerning investors' lips at the moment.

According to the Mayor, the marina should boost tourism in the area of Natal, while currently the nearest marina is located in Salvador, Bahia. The new marina plans are good news to property developers as they should mark a further boost to the tourist economy, attracting increased numbers of visitors to Natal.
