The amount being spent by foreign leisure travellers in Brazil is on the increase, new figures have revealed.
According to the central bank, holidaymakers spent £268 million in the South American nation last month, reports Gazeta Mercantil.
This is 15.83% up on the amount recorded during the same period of the previous year.
Figures also showed that during the year to date, overall consumer spending is 18.42% up on the first 8 months of 2007.
Commenting on the figures, Jeanine Pires of tourism institute Embratur said they show that Brazil is successfully encouraging tourists to spend more time and money in the country.
She added that it demonstrates how its international promotion policy is generating positive results.
Earlier this week, Embratur announced that it would be launching a brand new overseas marketing strategy aimed at fuelling further growth in the tourism sector.
