two thirds of the region is hilly-mountainous. nature in this area, where the danube plain meets the balkan mountains, is extremely sumptuous. there are 8 reserves and protected territories in the district. the largest part of the huge national park central balkan is included in this area. in addition the steneto, boatin and carichina reserves are under the aegis of junesko. in these reserves live over 30 plants and approximately 120 birds and mammals all protected by the law. the region is especially opulent in caves. all of this in conjunction with the luxury hunting preserves bialka and rusalka give wonderful opportunities for a mountain and hunting tourism. the trojan and glojenski cloisters are among the 684-th monuments of culture. the rivers iskar, vit and osam together with the great lakes sopot, krapec and alexandrovo are marvelous places not only for repose, but also for unforgettable fishing jaunts. visiting the 10-th mountain hostels, some of which are ambarica, pleven, vejen, kozia stena, vasiliov etc., reveals the fascination of the massif. shipkovo, chiflik and krushina, as well as the mountain resorts ribica, cherni osam, aprilci and beklemeto give the opportunity to gain in health with their mineral springs.
