Low living costs in Bulgaria 'pulling in the tourists'
Article Date : 26 April 2007
Bulgaria is becoming a popular choice for British travellers because of its low cost of living, a new study has shown.
According to the Post Office Holiday Costs Barometer, Bulgaria is significantly cheaper than most other European holiday destinations.
Items such as a cup of coffee, a bottle of beer, a packet of cigarettes and a three-course meal are far cheaper in Bulgaria than they are in Cyprus, France or Greece.
According to the Post Office, foreign currency sales for Bulgaria were up 83 per cent in the two weeks before Easter, when compared with 2006.
Kevin McAdam, head of travel services, said: "You have to be careful when comparing costs in different countries. It all depends on their relative cost of living and it pays to be aware of favourable currency rates.
"It is clear that there are savings to be made depending on where you choose to holiday in Europe."
According to Moneycorp, the popularity of Bulgaria can be attributed to a number of factors ? including cheap flights, winter skiing and summer sun.
