The economies of many eastern European countries have been boosted by EU membership, experts have stated.

Indian travel website MakeMy Trip said that entering the EU had triggered a new period of economic growth in the region.

This was said to have had a knock-on effect on their tourist industries, since people were increasingly starting to consider eastern European countries as holiday destinations.

Sachian Bhatia, head of MakeMyTrip, told Express Travel World: "All these destinations are famous for their immense natural beauty and historical monuments including castles and churches."

This comes alongside comments from David Lewis of Hodge Insurance Brokers, who said the region was becoming highly sought-after by overseas property investors.

Speaking to the Western Mail, he stated that emerging markets in eastern Europe were widely seen as having more investment potential than more established countries, due to the potential of earning higher capital returns.
