Romania has been flagged up as a possible option for overseas property buyers to consider.
Philip Groves, a Briton who is purchasing an apartment in the country, said it had several attractions for foreign investors.
Speaking to the Telegraph, he said it was easily accessible from the UK due to the introduction of cheap flights by low-cost carriers.
Mr Groves told the newspaper that these services had opened up the market to both holidaymakers and business travellers, which means there will be high demand for rental accommodation in urban areas in particular.
However, he stressed that he was not solely dependent on visitors from overseas in order to get strong rental returns.
Mr Groves commented: "It's a strong domestic market so I'm not reliant on international factors to provide tenants or capital growth."
He added that a series of infrastructure improvements were currently underway, following its accession to the EU in January 2007.
Speculators in the property investment arena would be well advised to keep an eyes on Romania.
