The region
Troyan town is situated at the northern foot of the Balkan Mountains, and it lies on the shores of the Beli Osum River. The distance to airport Sofia is 160 km, and to airport Bourgas is 245 km. The region is distincted with transitional climate, as it varies from continental to mountainous. Rainy spring season, warm summer, sunny autumn and open winter are typical for the area. The relief is rugged and hilly. There are some national reserves in the district like: the national park Central Balkan, Steneto, Kozia Stena , a waterfall in Sokolovo and many more. A lot of factors contribute for the development of tourism in the Troyan province, some of which are: climatic conditions, presence of architectural and historical sites, centres for rehabilitation and last but not least great opportunities for sport and entertainment. Tourists will be strongly impressed by the diversity of the flora and fauna. Also, the famous destination Beklemeto is located 20 km away from the town. This interesting site offers unforgettable experience with a lot of ski tows and paths. A restaurant, hotel and ski-school are also situated there. Expeditions might be organized to the east of the mountain hostels Dermenka , Dobrila , Ambarica , Chuchul , and to the west of Kozia Stena , Eho and Vejen. Both the summer and winter seasons are appropriate for tourism there. Another remarkable destination, located in the vicinity of the town, is the Monastery of Troyan. Erected in the XVII century, it is one of the most valuable monuments of the Christian religion. The monastery includes a richly decorated church The Assumption, which preserves the miraculous icon Holly Virgin Troeruchica. The church Saint Paraskeva is also a monument of architecture and culture, and it is open for tourists.
