Near the town a significant Thracian tomb is discovered reflecting the fundamental structural principles of Thracian cult buildings.
The town of Isperih emerged in 1545, inheriting a medieval settlement. It carries the name of the founder of the first Bulgarian state, the Protobulgarian Asparuh, whose monument stands out in the centre of the town. The once small settlement has gradually grown into a modern town with an agro-industrial complex, schools, kindergartens and healthcare establishments. It has a pleasant town centre with plenty of attractive cafes, and a lively Friday-morning market which attracts people from all over the region.
