Four ski-runs are to be built, tracks for snowboards (half pipes) and for motor sledges and ski-lift which is the most important project of the municipal authorities. The snow blankets lasts from November to April and the view revealing at the top of the ski-lift towards the Batak dam is really magnificent. The fulfilling of the project will turn Batak into one of the modern ski-centres in Bulgaria.
Batak??s lands are sprinkled with many monuments to the area??s culture throughout the ages. Batak is a heroic Bulgarian town. History describes the settlement as the member of the Bulgarian community that paid the heaviest price to deliver the nation to freedom and independence from the Ottoman Empire. In the winter of 1876, feverish preparations for the Bulgaria??s April Uprising began. But the enemy showed unheard of cruelty and ruthlessness. In an unparalleled atrocity, about 5,000 were killed and the village was burned to ashes.
