In news that may interest those thinking of investing in US property, it has been reported that an increasing number of Canadians are taking advantage of the widespread availability of bargain deals in their southern neighbour.

The cost of the average home in US dollars has fallen to almost the same number of Canadian Dollars, Canoe Money reports.

It stated that in June this year a USD325,000 home was worth CAD325,423, compared with CAD519,318 in January 2002.

Such a change may illustrate how much of a bargain British investors in the US may be able to get at present.

The situation has come about despite Canada's own economic fortunes taking a downturn.

A new poll by CBC news has found that 48 per cent of Canadians are worried about their economy, up 16 per cent from the last poll in October 2007.

The number of UK residents who are likely to opt for a move abroad is likely to continue to grow, it has been claimed.

Dave Isley, head of NatWest Personal Banking, stated that the "globalisation of companies" and the increased ease of travel between destinations were major factors in this trend.

He noted that emigrants often found it easier to assimilate themselves into English-speaking communities.

Mr Isley stated: "They're moving from the UK because the opportunities that they've been given to work abroad are there."

He added that there were a lot of people who were deciding to expatriate, asserting that "it's a pattern that I think is increasing".

NatWest's Quality of Life Survey found that almost half of those who had moved to Canada from the UK felt that they had lost some of their sense of Britishness.

This contrasted with a number of non-English speaking countries such as Singapore, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates where zero per cent felt this way.
