Sal Island

Sal Island is very close to the West African coast of Senegal and is the most developed of all the islands. It is about 30km long and the widest width is 12km.

Sal has the largest number of tourists visiting within the group of islands many of which come for the watersports. Scuba diving is very popular due to the vast and colourful sea life which can be found there.

The International Airport of Cape Verde is based on Sal Island with daily international flights. From Sal Island it is possible to get flights to the other islands. It is also possible to reach the other islands by ferry. Later this year a new International Airport is due to open in Praia on Santiago Island.

The Cape Verde Government are investing vast sums of money in Sal Island in order to promote tourism and increase the value of property in cape verde to compete with other groups of islands like the Canaries.

• The island has beautiful long white sandy beaches one of the best being at Santa Maria which is 8km long.
• There are an abundance of bars and restaurants playing live Cape Verdian music and a good variety of shops and markets to visit.
• The Cape Verde inhabitants are very friendly and show incredible hospitality to visitors to their islands.
