Boa Vista is the closest island to Africa and is known to discerning sun worshippers for its spectacular beaches, particularly the 5 km of powdery white sands at Santa Monica. Boa Vista is populated largely on its shores, while the interior is composed of barren, volcanic rock with fantastic rust coloured lunar style landscapes, interspersed with leafy oases - ideal for enjoying outstanding views and trekking.

The visitors' hub is Sal's capital, Sal Rei, which comes alive at night with live Afro-Brazillian music and dancing. Popular attractions are also its many opportunities for water sports in stunning locations, due to the warm, dry Saharan winds that hit the island; sailing, diving, fishing, sea kayaking and cycling are firm favourites.
