British investors enjoy success in Cape Verde

UK buyers have been speaking about why investing in property in Cape Verde has been a successful undertaking.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, singer Sonia Jones revealed how she spent £40,000 on an apartment in Santa Maria on the island of Sal in 2003 and enjoyed the success she has had with it.

She remarked: "My daughter told me I was mad, but I wish I'd bought more.

"The apartment has doubled in value and it has been rented out almost constantly through Noscasa estate agency."

Ms Jones has gone on to buy a £94,000 property on Boa Vista with partner and songwriter Richard Darbyshire, with the couple living in this and renting out the apartment on Sal.

Director of Noscasa estate agency Paul Akwei said the tourism industry is growing thanks to factors such as new airports and the recent launch of an inter-island ferry service.

Cape Verde is also seeing its infrastructure develop with help from US government aid.

It is to be the sole recipient of continued Millennium Challenge Corporation funding, secretary of state Hillary Clinton revealed recently.
