Cape Verde is aiming to raise tourism numbers in a move that could boost the holiday rental property sector.
Macauhub noted that local press reports on the archipelago revealed that the island's Tourism Strategy Plan aims to increase the annual flow of visitors to 500,000 a year by 2013.
The project has been approved by ministers and would boost tourism sector employment by as much as 60 per cent.
Government spokesperson Janira Hoppfer Almada stated that between 2000 and 2008 the tally of overseas holidaymakers in the islands rose by 11.4 per cent.
A further rise in numbers could increase demand for rental property for holidaymakers to let.
Last month, singer Sonia Jones told the Daily Mail she had enjoyed success from buying and letting a one-bedroom apartment on the island of Sal in 2003 for GBP40,000.
She explained: "The apartment has doubled in value and it has been rented out almost constantly through Noscasa estate agency."
