An increasing number of European buyers have been seeking out properties in Cape Verde, particularly in Sal and Boa Vista, one local expert has observed.

Managing director of Cape Verde Property Adrian Lillywhite commented that investors from all over Europe are taking advantage of the distressed sales available.

"No doubt we have some excellent short-term bargains and distressed deals at present and we are finding investors being careful to find the very best deals," he noted.

Mr Lillywhite offered some advice to those looking for a home in Cape Verde, saying that buying a property as close to the sea as possible is important.

Investors should also do their research and make sure they ask for a full breakdown of the costs relating to maintenance if they are considering buying a unit that is part of a managed development, he added.

Sal is home to the country's main airport, while Boa Vista boasts a small airstrip for local flights.
