The tourist industry in Cyprus has generated an increased amount of revenue this year, local media have said.
According to the Financial Mirror, income from the travel sector rose by 3.2 per cent throughout the 12 months to June 2007.
The news provider also stated that there had been an increased number of tourists flocking to the island during August.
Figures showed that last month's number of tourists was 8.1 per cent higher than in the corresponding period of 2006.
The Financial Mirror said this was largely due to many holidaymakers choosing to visit Cyprus at the last minute, although it said this conclusion was drawn from "anecdotal" evidence.
However, this does concur with recent comments from Humberside Airport Travel, a UK-based travel agency.
The organisation said that as a result of the torrential rain experienced in Britain during the summer, many people booked last-minute holidays to destinations such as Cyprus.
