Property investors in search of warm weather have been advised to consider purchasing a home in Egypt.

The country was highlighted by the BuyAssociation website as a location that offered that offered guaranteed sunshine all year round.

Along with its wide range of leisure attractions, its favourable climate was said to have helped turn it into a popular holiday destination during the winter months

Paul Collins, overseas property editor at BuyAssociation, commented: "Egypt combines history and tradition with some fantastic modern resort developments that attract visitors from across the world."

He added that the growth of low-cost airlines had changed how consumers picked their holiday destinations, thereby helping to make second home ownership more common.

Mr Collins described owning a foreign property as a lifestyle decision that was becoming "the norm" among British people.

According to Datamonitor, people from the UK and Ireland collectively owned £44.4 billion worth of property overseas by the end of 2006.
