Travelling To Estonia
Ease of travel to your chosen property location is always important when making the decision to invest. Below are the options currently available to Estonia.
Book a Flight to Estonia
The most popular way to reach Estonia is by air but, by virtue of its geographical location, Estonia is often reached by ferry or road. The Port of Tallinn, located practically in the centre of town, is an added advantage for the large number of Finnish and Scandinavian tourists who visit Estonia by way of ferry.
By Air
The international airport of Tallin, “Ülemiste lennujaam”, is at present the only international airport available to travellers and is located just 4 km from Tallinn city centre.
“Ulemiste” airport has recently been extended to comply with Schengen requirements, adding some 14.000 m² and doubling its original size. There are, however, short term plans to make the Tartu Airport into an international airport in order to supplement air facilities at Ülemiste lennujaam.
The national carrier is Estonian Air.
Estonia is serviced by the following airlines:
Air Baltic, Airest, Avies, City Airline, CSA Czech Airlines, EasyJet, Finnair, Finncomm Airlines, Flynordic, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines / Air France / Northwest Airlines / Al Italia / Delta Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Norwegian and SAS Scandinavian Airlines.
Direct flights to Tallinn Airport arrive from the following major airports:
Amsterdam, London, Moscow, Frankfurt, Riga, Helsinki, Vilnius, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Prague, Brussels, Barcelona, Kiev, Oslo, El Alamein.
By Ferry
A number of ferry companies operate to and from ports in Estonia.
The main port is Tallinn, with 4 large modern passenger terminals servicing some 7 million passengers on a yearly basis. These are very large numbers for such a small country, even on a world scale. Most visitors go straight to the main national tourist attraction, The ‘Old Town’ in Tallinn.
The trip from Helsinki takes less than 3 hours by hydrofoil ferry, with a conventional ferry boat taking just over 4 hours.
Tallink, the major Estonian ferry operator, serves the following major ports:
Stockholm, Rostock, Helsinki and St. Petersburg
Tallink has recently taken over Silja Line and some fast ships from Superfast Ferries.
Other ferry operators are:
Eckerö Line, Viking Line, SuperSeaCat, Nordic Jet Line, Linda Line Express
By Road
An ever-increasing number of visitors use road travel to get to Estonia. With the renovation of the E67 from the south as the major traffic route complete, along with the main road from the town of Narva on the Russian border in the east, it is perfectly feasible to get to Estonia by private car.
By Rail
At present it is only possible to reach Estonia by train from the Russian towns of St. Petersburg and Moscow.
