Basse-normandie Property
Basse-Normandie is made up of the three departements of Orne, Calvados and Manche, each with their own features and property markets. The region is well connected by many low cost direct flights from the UK to Cherbourg, Caen and Le Havre, while ferries arrive at Caen, Cherbourg and Le Havre. Spanning the Seine and linking Honfleur with Le Havre the Pont de Normandie, makes access from the UK very easy. This ease of access and interesting tourist attractions have all helped maintain property buoyancy in this region of Normandy. British buyers flock to the area in order to take advantage of low prices and beautiful rural properties, many of which are perfect for renovation projects. Calvados has seen the highest price increases, followed by Manche and Orne respectively.
Coastal towns such as picturesque Honfleur are very popular amongst day-tripping Parisians, while Deauville with its smart casinos and villas was once the playground of the rich and famous. Mont Saint Michel is a stunning town and a major magnet for tourists in Normandy due to its magnificent tidal islet, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Connected by a causeway with the mainland, this medieval town rises majestically above the plains below. The main agricultural activity in the region is cattle, dairy and apples with Basse-Normandie being renowned for its cider and apple based liquor, Calvados.
