The Region

The Finca Majorca development is situated in the beautiful Mediterranean village of Collioure which lies in the Pyrenees Orientale's region of Languedoc in southern France. This stretch of French and Spanish coastline has grown to become one of the most established holiday destinations in Europe, and is the warmest area of all of southern France. As well as encouraging holiday makers, the clemency of the region has lead to it becoming one of Frances primary vineyard locations and hence viticulture and tourism are the areas leading industries.

Location

Known as the gem of the Roussillon coast, the traditional and historic town of Collioure sits immediately upon the Mediterranean coast, not far from the foot of the Pyrenees Mountains. Situated in the heart of Catalan country the local culture, folklore, tradition and food of Collioure reflect its proximity to Spain and the Mediterranean.

Collioure has four sandy beaches, with further miles of white sands at nearby Argeles. The bays and beaches are flanked by a 13th century castle and a medieval church which carve a dramatic silhouette upon the skyline. Indeed, although now an established seaside resort, Collioure has maintained much of its historic charm and atmosphere. With its art, history, culture, uninterrupted sunshine (320 days a year) and breathtaking views Collioure provides an idyllic setting for holiday property purchase.

The area offers a variety of activities and entertainment for every taste. One can explore the nearby foothills of the Pyrenees and the Alberes, visit the recently restored windmill on the way to the forts, or take the Tour Madeloc to enjoy splendid views of French and Spanish Catalonia. For those keen on the arts the guided tour of "Les Chemins du Fauvisme" looking back on the works of Matisse and Derain when they resided in Collioure is a must. The Museum of Modern Art also holds seasonal exhibitions of local artists and in nearby Ceret, the Modern Art centre has works by many famous artists including Picasso, Dali and Chagall. The areas rich history includes the Chateau Royal of Collioure, and the Castle of the Kings of Majorca in Perpignan.

Local French wines are also available for sample by wine lovers on the frequent tours of the local vineyards and to accompany this, visits to the local markets to experience the fresh produce and local crafts comes highly recommended. Probably the best known is the fish market in Port Vendres with locally caught fish and shellfish, which is open daily. Collioure also offers a wide variety of local restaurants of which several boast gourmet cuisine - ideal for those who wish to enjoy the local produce without having to prepare it themselves!

The Development

The development consists of 25 villas with 2 to 4 bedrooms and 27 apartments with 1 to 2 bedrooms. Most properties enjoy panoramic sea views of the Mediterranean, whilst there is also a large swimming-pool on site for use by residents.
