Christmas markets attracting visitors to France

Some of the best festive markets in Europe are expected to draw many foreign visitors to France during the Christmas period.

An article in the Times draws attention to several festive events taking place in the country this month, with Strasbourg hosting France's largest Christmas market until December 24th.

Known as Christkindelsmarik, the market dates back to 1570 and is held in the picturesque grounds of the Cathedrale Notre-Dame.

Elsewhere, Lille's Christmas shopping fair runs until December 30th and features weekly visits from Father Christmas, who can be seen 'falling' from the 80-metre summit of the city's chamber of commerce on the Saturday before Christmas.

Paris also boasts several popular Christmas markets, including one at the Boulevard Saint Germain.

Overseas property owners in France could receive a boost from an influx in visitors during the festive period, with the country now more accessible due to the expansion of Eurostar.
