The French government has revealed that the country's tourism sector is continuing to perform strongly this year.
According to junior minister Herve Novelli, nearly 82 million foreign nationals visited France in 2007.
Although visitor numbers from countries such as Japan and the US declined during this period, this was offset by strong performances from other markets.
For example, there was a notable increase in the number of tourists from Middle Eastern nations, while people from across Europe continued to head for France as well.
Mr Novelli observed: "There is a kind of very deep fidelity among foreigners from countries nearby."
He stated that France proved to particularly popular with nationalities such as the Italians, Germans and British last year.
According to American Express, France is an appealing option for Britons because it is easily accessible by ferry.
As a result, consumers can avoid the long check-in times which people associate with air travel, while they can also take their car abroad with them.
