The falling value of the pound has not diluted France's appeal as a holiday destination or overseas property location, it has been claimed.
Writing in the Telegraph, Anthony Peregrine states that recent changes in the exchange rate should not put people off visiting France because many of the best things about the country are available for free.
He explains: "The landscape - sea, mountains, rivers, forests and lakes - assembles the best of Europe in one country.
"That costs nothing. Nor does the politeness and general decorum."
Mr Peregrine has also compiled a list of reasons to visit France in 2009, with numerous festivals and cultural events taking place all over the country this year.
The Granet Museum in Aix-en-Provence is set to launch a new celebration of Cezanne and Picasso in May, while the Nice Jazz Festival will attract crowds of music lovers to the Cote d'Azur in July.
Low-cost airline Ryanair recently announced a new route between London Luton Airport and the French city of Limoges, beginning on May 3rd.
