The Pyrenees offers lower prices for those wishing to buy property in a mountainous region of France, it has been stated.
In a feature on the Haute Ariege area, the Daily Telegraph noted that the cost of buying in the region is lower than in the Alps.
British property owner in the area Cherry Frizzell remarked to the paper: "The French don't know about the Pyrenees, they think about the mountains as being the Alps."
The Telegraph noted that the area offers attractions such as cross-country skiing, canoeing and climbing, features that may be attractive to property buyers.
A part of the French Pyrenees that is particularly popular with Britons is the Lot area, it has been claimed.
Last month marketing and communications official for the Midi-Pyrenees Tourist Board Solenne Odon stated that favoured places include the wine area around the town of Cieurac, as well as villages such as Rocamadour and St-Cirq Lapopie.
