Vendee 'a strong tourist area'

The Vendee area of France is the second most popular area for tourists and offers good prospects for property investors, it has been stated.

It has numerous aspects which can attract visitors, such as castles, abbeys, islands off the shore, plus sporting activities like golf, sailing and cycling, French specialist property firm VEF has noted.

The portal added that its recent investigation of the area showed that investors can enjoy "excellent returns" on property there, with some having as many as 24 weeks of lettings per year.

Vendee's tourism website lists a number of visitor attractions, including the fact that its port is home to the Vendee Globe, also known as the Round the World Yacht Race.

Briton Ellen MacArthur made the headlines in 2001 when she came second overall in the race and established herself as the fastest female solo sailor ever in the event.
