Activities
In winter all manner of snow sports are on offer (skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing, cross country skiing etc). The Tour de France often passes through the area, so its ideal for cycling amateurs and professionals. Gavarnie is nearby, an extraordinary site and the location of a cultural festival.
Local food and specialities
The Hautes Pyrenees is known for the classic sauce barnaise (clarified butter, egg, shallot, and tarragon) served with meat, as well as onions from Trebons, pork from Gascony and beans from Tarbes. The famous gateau a la broche is from the region too- a cake traditionally cooked by the fire, on a long skewer.
