Les Eyzies de Tayac is in the Dordogne department of Aquitaine in the south-west of France. It is located a few km away from the famous Sarlat La Caneda touristic village. Nestled on the left bank of the Vzre river in the valley of the same name, Les Eyzies de Tayac is at the heart of an area of unspoilt natural beauty, surrounded by limestone cliffs and rolling hills. This is also an area steeped in history with 1001 medieval and Renaissance castles locally in addition to the 147 prehistoric sites which have led to this area being named as a UNESCO world heritage site. Les Eyzies de Tayac is perfectly placed for discoving the local area and is close to Bergerac, famous for its tobacco and wine production, Prigueux, with its impressive medieval and renaissance centre full of distinct white limestone buildings and Sarlat la Caneda,the capital of the Perigord Noir in the Dordogne. This picturesque town is one of the best preserved examples of a 14th century French town with its cobbled streets and beautiful archways. It is also a popular filming location with films such as Les Misrables and Jeanne dArc (Joan of Arc) having been filmed here. The town of Les Eyzies de Tayac itself offers to residents and visitors all the amenities (banks, supermarkets etc) you have come to expect, wonderful museums and some lovely restaurants. A wide range of sports and leisure activities are also available locally.
