Location
Located at Varkiza or Alianthos, a beautiful suburb of Athens with a sandy beach on the way to Sounion. It is part of the municipality of Vari in southern Attica and is located east of the Megalo Daktylo (Large Finger) SW of the Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport and the Attiki Odos. Most of the street names are named after Greek myths as well as a main street named Poseidonos. Varkiza has a famous beach that is linked with a hotel that includes a tennis court, a park, a field, restaurant, tavern, complexes and more.
Varkiza (Greek: ��ñêeæá), also is a partly urbanized area forming part of the municipality of Vari in southern Attica, located east of the Megalo Daktylo (Large Finger). It lies approximately 2km south of Vari, 22km S of Athens, SW of the Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport, NW of Cape Sounio, and south of the Hymettus Ring. This locality is the second most expensive area in Greece.
Since 2001 Varkiza has been hugely modernised, with top shopping malls, new luxury cinemas. Varkiza in the 1960s was a small village for the poor but today has developed to a small town for the rich with one of the best beaches in "Attiki". In the summer Varkiza population triples as Varkiza resort is right next to the top summer clubs which are located on the "Glyfada strip".
The sandy beach of Varkiza is the further away from the town centre. Its distance from the centre makes it one of the less crowded of the south-east coast, despite its beauty. This beach is an organised one offering tennis and volleyball courts which can be hired per hour, day or evening, water slides, some snack bars and a play area for children. The beach is easily reachable by bus, directly from the town centre.
