Overseas property investors are increasingly looking at the south of Italy because of the improved accessibility of the region, it has been reported.
The growth of budget aviation was said to be one of the main factors behind its recent emergence as a hotspot for foreign property buyers.
UK-based newspaper the Telegraph stated that the recent introduction of cheap flights to Calabria by low-cost carrier Ryanair was one of the catalysts of the recent property boom.
"Since Ryanair started to fly into the region Calabria's star has risen," the newspaper commented.
The Telegraph added that new property was being developed in the province in response to growing demand, as it was becoming a "fashionable" market for foreign buyers.
In addition, it suggested that although prices were still "relatively affordable", property values were likely to go up within the next few years.
This follows a report by the Mayo Advertiser which said that during the last 12 months, prices in Calabria had gone up by more than one-third.
