Speaking to the International Herald Tribune, real estate agent Marco Tirelli said that improvements to the transport network were likely to have a significant effect on house prices in the affected areas.
Specifically, he stated that the extension of Italy's high-speed rail service would lead to property values in popular tourist spots along the coast to increase.
Mr Tirelli told the newspaper that the accessibility improvements would lead to a housing boom comparable to that caused by budget airlines.
Carriers such as Ryanair have been widely credited with triggering a surge in house prices in those places that they have begun to service.
For example, the airline recently started offering flights to southern Italy, leading to a rush of interest in the province of Calabria among tourists and foreign property buyers.
The carrier recently said it was planning to upgrade and replace parts of its fleet next year, as well as introduce extra aircraft to handle the additional routes.
