A British couple have explained their reasons for buying a farmhouse property in Italy.

Jill Connick and Edward Harbour set up a renovation business after buying the home in the Italian region of La Marche, which they described as "a small piece of paradise".

Now happily settled in the property, Ms Connick told Homes Worldwide that they both feel "calmer and healthier" after moving from north London to live permanently in their Italian home.

"We really enjoy the difference - the peace and quiet and beauty everywhere we look," she explained.

Ms Connick said that learning to speak the language was the "main challenge" facing the couple after the move, although they are gradually making progress in that area.

Italian property firms are expecting an increase in demand over the next few months following confirmation of David Beckham's loan move to AC Milan.

The sports star will join the Serie A club in January, with wife Victoria believed to be hunting for a home near Milan at the moment.
