Southern Tuscany may be about to rise up as a property hotspot for those investing in Italy, it has been suggested.
Bill Thompson of international property firm Knight Frank's Florence office told Country Life: "It is an emerging area, especially if the airport opens up in Siena."
Describing other locations in the region with this potential, he added: "Maremma, Castiglione della Pescaia and Punta Ala are already established with Italians and the Argentario has always been popular."
Siena airport has been undergoing extensive development in recent years, its website states.
Such measures include being open 24 hours a day since 2000, the introduction of new safety measures such as extra space at the end of the runway and the lengthening of its runway from 1393 metres to 1498 metres.
The city of Siena itself is described by Discovery Tuscany as being probably the loveliest medieval city in the whole country.
