Ancient Nicotera, an important city of the magna-Greek period lays on one side of a hill overlooking the Port of Gioia Tauro. The historical centre of Nicotera can be found at the base of the Norman Castle in which one can find the natural Archaeological Museum which exhibits numerous pieces of valuable art.
