The town of Moulay Idriss is emerging as a new tourism destination in Morocco, it has been suggested.
In a feature on the location, the Times suggested that the settlement, which has deep historic and spiritual significance in the country, is becoming progressively more welcoming to outsiders, belying its image as a hostile and inhospitable place.
One of its features includes the shrine to and grave of Idriss I, who introduced the Islamic faith to Morocco and founded the Idris dynasty.
The opening up of places like Moulay Idriss to outsiders may help boost tourism in Morocco, something that could in turn be good news for those investing in property there.
Another positive factor may be the strength of the economy in the north African country.
The rate of economic growth will be between 4.7 per cent and 5.7 per cent for the first half of 2009, according to figures from the Moroccan High Planning Commission, reports Maghreb Arabe Presse.
