A former waste dump by a river in the Moroccan capital of Rabat is being transformed into an area of prime real estate, it has been revealed.
The Bab al Bahr project at the mouth of the River Bouregreg has seen a new marina built and will eventually lead to a five-star hotel and several museums accompanying high-end housing, the National reports.
According to the paper, 157 flats will be completed as phase one of the project in 2011, with the undertaking aiming to revive the culture of an area with a history that goes back 23 centuries.
This has even seen some parts of the blueprint revised to protect antiquities and monuments uncovered during excavations.
Off-plan sales of 500 of the 2,000 homes set to be built will start next month, which may interest UK investors.
