Portugal's reputation as a place for golf tourism - generating visitor income and raising demand for buy-to-let tourist property - may be boosted by the hosting of a charity golf tournament.
The Bader Cup is to be held at the Alamos Golf Club in Portimao from November 9th to 13th, raising money for the Douglas Bader foundation, which supports people who need prosthetic limbs.
Douglas Bader was a famous wartime RAF pilot who lost both his legs and had to use artificial limbs made of tin, yet still managed to continue flying combat missions.
Alamos is one of a number of courses in the popular Algarve region and attention focused on it may help generate more interest.
Last month the PGA European Tour website noticed the impact golf has on Portuguese tourism.
It stated that 300,000 visitors a year play on the country's courses and generate 25 per cent of the tourist industry's income.
