Golfers urged to visit Portugal

Portugal's warm climate, friendly people and high-quality facilities make it one of the best destinations in the world for golf holidays, it has been claimed.

Golf International states that the Algarve coast provides a "true vacation paradise" for fans of the sport because it contains "one of the finest collections of top quality golf courses to be found anywhere".

The holiday operator claims that golfers arriving in Portugal for the first time are likely to feel "like a glutton at a banquet", such is the sheer variety of golf venues on offer.

However, the sport is not the only reason people are attracted to Portugal, Golf International explains.

The firm says that golf is "only one allure among the many" in the country, with its beautiful beaches, rich culture and history, and fine food and drink.

As a result, Portugal has much to offer both golf lovers and "those who prefer to do absolutely nothing at all but relax, hang out and watch the world go by".

Official figures reveal that Portugal received approximately 7 million foreign visitors in 2007, creating a potentially lucrative market for property owners in the nation.
