Portugal has developed its own style as a tourist destination, it has been stated, something that may interest those looking at investing in property there.
Speaking about the appeal of the country as a place to take a holiday, a spokesman for the Association of Independent Tour Operators said Portugal had originally been like Spain in the sense that it has expanded its appeal into areas such as wine and culture.
He commented: "It still has the lounging on the beach [factor], but people are realising that Portugal does have a lot more to offer. It is becoming more mature as a destination."
Such a situation could encourage those thinking of investing in Portuguese property, as this could mean further growth in the numbers of tourists looking to rent residential property.
Emerging areas of Portugal include the Silver Coast, it has recently been observed.
A feature in the Manchester Evening News last month said the region has become a "serious rival" to the Algarve.
