South Africa is on course to secure a major tourist legacy by hosting the football World Cup next year, it has been stated.
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Gary Bailey told an event for property investors in Port Elizabeth that there will be 220,000 visitors during the tournament and also a major legacy.
He stated: "Even after the tournament there will still be benefits. It will allow us to brand the country and will bring immense tourism opportunities."
This will enable more people to realise that South Africa is "one of the most beautiful counties in the world," Mr Bailey added, stating only an event as large as the World Cup or the Olympic Games could achieve this profile.
Overseas property buyers may consider the event a good reason to invest in tourist property to capitalise on the potential increase in visitor numbers.
As well as Port Elizabeth, host cities for the tournament that may enjoy a particularly strong focus include Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria, Bloemfontein and Johannesburg.
