Approximately two million people from the UK are set to leave the country behind for the August bank holiday weekend.
The Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) stated that many are taking the opportunity to escape "the wettest August in years" in search of better weather overseas.
As a result, established destinations such as Spain are proving to be very popular with tourists, as they offer "guaranteed" sunshine.
Abta added that it has also seen a high number of bookings for trips to Cyprus, Portugal and Turkey.
Commenting on this trend, Abta president Justin Fleming said: "The August bank holiday is our traditional goodbye to the summer and is always very busy."
Friday and Saturday are expected to be especially busy for airports, particularly those in south-east England.
This comes after Abta noted that hikes in the euro have not stopped Spain from being the "number one destination" for Britons this year.
