An airline has expressed surprise with the level of interest surrounding its new Spanish service.
Monarch Airlines began offering direct passage to Murcia from Manchester Airport earlier this month.
According to the carrier, the first flight was almost fully booked before the launch date and more than 20,000 bookings for the route have now been taken.
This suggests that travel to Murcia is in high demand among Mancunian leisure travellers, which means the new service could have a positive impact on its tourist industry.
In addition, the route should open up the market to potential holiday home buyers and rental investors.
Commenting on the popularity of the flights, Liz Savage from Monarch said: "We have been overwhelmed by how well it has been received."
Meanwhile, Ryanair has announced that it is to bolster its quota of flights to Spain by establishing a new base in Barcelona and launching flights to the city from places such as Birmingham.
