Despite recent concerns about the market's stability, the Spanish property sector has a positive future, according to one expert.
Laura Vergani, head of media relations at Barclays GRCB, said that although the country is experiencing a "slowdown" within its property market, over the coming years the market will strengthen.
"It's difficult to predict what investors will do but what we think is the long-term outlook for the property market is good," Ms Vergani remarked.
Investors, whether looking for a holiday home or a pure investment, should view their purchase as a medium to long-term venture, she added.
Among those buying overseas property are people looking to enjoy the lifestyle offered by their chosen destination, with many investors retiring abroad, she stated.
The Office for National Statistics recently reported that in 2005, 380,000 people chose to emigrate from the UK, with Spain proving to be one of the most popular destinations for British citizens.
