Spain remains top tourist destination

Spain continues to be the most popular overseas tourist destination among British holidaymakers, one expert has claimed.

In a trend which may interest those considering purchasing an investment property abroad, Sean Tipton, spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), said that Spain remains more popular than both France and the USA.

Italy is also attracting a growing number of visitors, according to Mr Tipton who stated that the country has now overtaken Greece as the fourth most popular destination for Britons seeking the sun.

"The main reason for leaving the country – as most of our breaks are taken over the summer – is the lure of guaranteed good weather and beautiful beaches," he remarked.

Both the lifestyle and climate offered by Spain is also highly sought after by Britons looking to retire overseas.

Paul Collins, overseas property editor for BuyAssociation, recently said that Spain, France and Portugal are the "leading" overseas retirement destinations for people in the UK.
